Gathering up her spell book she hurried down the stairs into the
cellar. She wondered briefly if Goliath had once again stolen Griff
away but knew there was only one way to find out where her beloved
had gone.
She held the book and spoke the magical incantation for her locater
spell. Wind swirled around her, her mane and tail fluttering wildly,
her wings fluttering. A small sphere of light appeared before her and
grew larger and larger until she seemed to be looking through an orb
half her size.
She closed her eyes, her thoughts focused completely on the missing
gargoyle. "Griff..." She murmered, her eyes closed. She opened them
slowly holding her focus. Controlling her thoughts. The orb let off a
soft blue light as slowly images began to appear, fuzzy at first,
growing clearer as she watched.
Griff appeared looking just as handsome as always. And alive. She
refused to lose her focus just to express her relief. She listened
carefully to the ghostly voice of a bearded human as he spoke to
another white bearded human.
It appeared that Griff had somehow tangled himself up with King
Arthur?? She found it rather hard to believe but all that mattered
was that he was alive. She closed her eyes and focused once more. The
images of the humans and Griff vanished to be replaced by a rotating
globe of the Earth. Slowly, while the sphere stayed the same size the
map grew and began to zoom in faster and faster. North America. The
United States. The Colonies. New York. Manhatten...
So that's where he was. But how? She carefully released the energy
from the spell and ended it. "He is in... Manhatten." She spoke to
Leo whom she knew was looming in the doorway.
"Manhatten?" He repeated. "But how the blazes did he get there?"
"I do not know any more of how he got there than you do. Only that he
is there and I intend to ask him when I see him." She continued. "My
guess would be that he got there in the same, or a similar manner,
that I will be traveling in."
"You?" Leo said. "You mean US." She nodded.
"Very well. I will prepare the spell. You..."
"I shall... lock up." He said ascending the stairs back to the shop.
Una waited for his return before beginning the spell. "When I open
the portal wait until you see Griff on the other side. Then, go
through. Do not hesitate for it takes much strength to keep it open."
Leo nodded and Una began. Soon after, a shimmering blue doorway
appeared before the two of them.
Griff's image soon appeared in the door and Leo followed the command
quickly running through the portal. Una, after pumping some extra
energy into the portal to keep it open as she moved, followed in suit.
